Its really exciting to see how different cultures do business. As I travel through different countries, I notice how well people around the world do business reflects the values they hold as a society. For example, in Thailand, it is a Buddhist society, which believes in the circular nature of karma. They believe that kindness freely given to others comes back over time. This is reflected in the way they behave and how they handle money. In Japan, on the other hand, service and product perfection is the highest importance. So even until today, I have not experienced a level of customer service and product design as high quality as the ones I found in Japan. They pay attention to every detail that the overall experience is second to none. Throughout history, we have only seen one kind of business transaction, which is cash only. But since money have been digitized and credit cards were widely used, we see more ways to do business. There are two main categories, namely push-based transactions, as we see with cash payments. The other is pull-based, which we see in credit and debit cards. The credit card transaction has been historically a pull-based transaction, where the merchant gets the amount debited from the payers account after the card has been swiped. With mobile payments, we can now implement a push-based transaction, as we can with cash payments. And because physical change is more flexible with mobile digital payments than with cash (think coins and small denomination of cash) we can more easily track the flow and we can make secure and flexible payments with less chances of fraud.
